Horfield Methodist Church
The Church membership is 100 with a community roll of 305. There is a wide variety in the composition of the congregation: all ages, with an ethnic and social mix. The Junior Church and crèche that run alongside Sunday morning worship are well attended by children from church families.
Activities in the church include regular Bible study, a monthly church fellowship, a prayer group, a choir, an art group, a book club and a young person's fellowship. Five house groups meet regularly, as well as Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Rainbows, Brownies and Guides. The large premises are used extensively by church and community groups.
The church building is over a hundred years old and a major refurbishment has recently been completed. This provided a new kitchen and toilet facilities, an improved side entrance with secure access arrangements and the replacement of flat roofs.
The church is active ecumenically and takes a lead in the local Churches Together. Currently discussions are taking place with the local United Reformed Church, seeking ways to work more effectively together. Members are encouraged to be involved in local community ventures and the church supports a range of charities both financially and practically (see link to website).
